(No. B/31) Mr L. Caserne (Third Member for Port Louis North & Montagne Longue) asked the Minister of Health and Wellness whether, in regard to the distribution of methadone currently being carried out near the Abercrombie Police Station which is causing inconvenience to the inhabitants thereat, he will state if consideration will be given for the relocation thereof.
Madam Speaker, I wish to highlight to the House that the relocation of methadone dispensing to another site without proper planning will tantamount to transferring these inconveniences to other regions. I have been made aware that the Ministry has already embarked on a decentralisation process with a view to decreasing overcrowding at the dispensing sites and hence, minimising any inconveniences. In this regard, stable methadone beneficiaries are being relocated to our primary health facilities, and this is a slow process. Madam Speaker, I am further informed that the whole project of decentralisation of methadone dispensing will be addressed in the forthcoming National Drug Control Master Plan, which is being finalised by the National Drug Secretariat under the Prime Minister’s office with all stakeholders, including my ministry.
Hon. Third Member for Quartier Militaire and Moka, we still have a few minutes left. You have nine minutes left.
