(No. B/403) Ms D. Henriette-Manan (Third Member for Rodrigues) asked the Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, Home Affairs and External Communications, Minister of Finance, Minister for Rodrigues and Outer Islands whether, in regard to air connectivity between Mauritius and Rodrigues, he will – (a) for the benefit of the House, obtain information as to the number of daily flights operated by Air Mauritius to and from Rodrigues for each month during the period October 2024 to April 2025, and (b) consider using his good office to request Air Mauritius Ltd., to increase the daily operated flights on Rodrigues and to give a special consideration to Rodriguan residents in urgent and/or exceptional cases.
Reply: I am informed that Air Mauritius Ltd operates five daily ATR72 roundtrips on the Mauritius-Rodrigues route. In addition to these daily operations, supplementary flights are operated to meet additional demand during peak periods, with the number of flights even increasing up to 10 per day. In case of emergency where passengers from Rodrigues need immediate medical attention, Air Mauritius Ltd usually ensures that these passengers obtain a seat on the flight. With regard to part (a) of the question, I am informed that during the period October 2024 to April 2025, Air Mauritius Ltd had operated a total of 1,447 roundtrips on the Mauritius-Rodrigues route. These include additional flights over and above the five daily flights. A copy of the information requested for by the hon. Member is being placed in the Library of the National Assembly. For the Financial Year April 2025/March 2026, Air Mauritius Ltd is planning to have 2,403 roundtrips on the Mauritius-Rodrigues route. This represents an additional 153 roundtrips as compared to the previous financial year. MR N.B. – FORMER ICAC/FCC DIRECTOR – REMUNERATION & BENEFITS
