(No. B/411) Mr L. Caserne (Third Member for Port Louis North & Montagne Longue) asked the Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, Home Affairs and External Communications, Minister of Finance, Minister for Rodrigues and Outer Islands whether, in regard to road traffic offences in the Metropolitan (North) Division, he will, for the benefit of the House, obtain from the Commissioner of Police, information as to the number of contraventions booked over the past two years for the offence of – 151 (a) causing a vehicle to be parked on a double yellow line; (b) obstruction on public roads; (c) failing to wear high visibility clothing by riders and passengers of auto/motorcycles, and (d) failing to comply with traffic sign (Traffic lights).
Reply: I am informed by the Commissioner of Police that, from January 2023 to 30 April 2025, a total of 1,605 contraventions have been recorded for road traffic offences in the Metropolitan (North) Division, as follows – (a) 462 for causing a vehicle to be parked on a double yellow line; (b) 49 for obstruction on public roads; (c) 955 for failing to wear high visibility clothing by riders and passengers of motorcycles or autocycles, and (d) 139 for failing to comply with traffic lights. I am further informed that, in addition, Traffic Wardens of the National Land Transport Authority have issued 540 contraventions for the offence of causing a vehicle to be parked on a double yellow line for the same period.
