Reply: The people of this country have entrusted Government with the unequivocal mandate to modernise the electoral system to make it more democratic, representative and reflective of the exigencies of a modern society. As stated in the Government Programme 2025-2029, Government is committed to undertake a review of the Constitution, including the electoral system. The Constitution of the Republic of Mauritius, along with its electoral system, has undoubtedly been a bedrock of political and social stability in our country. However, it is clear that it is no longer responsive to the profound changes which our country has witnessed since Independence. The question of declaration of community will figure prominently among the terms of reference of the Constitutional Review Commission that will be set up shortly by Government.
