Reply: I am informed that as part of the modernisation and digitalisation of the domestic banking and payment services sector, the Bank of Mauritius is adopting a strategy for promoting digital payments in Mauritius. Digital banking is becoming more prominent everywhere. Despite the rise of digital banking, cheques are still a crucial part of the banking industry and is an option still widely in use. However, the switch to digital payments will go concurrently and is expected to yield more transparency, allowing for conducive lending to different sectors in the economy.
