Lobine (First Member for La Caverne & Phoenix) asked the Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, Home Affairs and External Communications, Minister of Finance, Minister for Rodrigues and Outer Islands whether, in regard to the proposed construction of a new Police Station at Phoenix, he will, for the benefit of the House, obtain from the Commissioner of Police, information as to where matters stand.
Madam Speaker, I am informed by the Commissioner of Police that the Phoenix Police Station is housed in its current location since 1959. The Phoenix Police Station serves an extensive jurisdiction covering approximately 21 square kilometres,
23 with an estimated population of 125,000 residents. It provides law enforcement services to several localities, including commercial zones and shopping malls. I am further informed, Madam Speaker, by the Commissioner of Police that a tender has been launched on 28 March 2025, for the construction of a new, modern Police Station at Phoenix. The new Police Station will be constructed adjacent to the existing building and is designed to meet the contemporary needs of the Police in the region. The construction is expected to start in August of this year.
