MR SEEWOONARAINHOJAH RAMLUGON

The Prime Minister

Madam Speaker, we have learnt with sadness of the demise of Mr Seewoonarainhojah Ramlugon, commonly known as Krishna Ramlugon, former Member of Parliament, on Monday 28 May of this year at the age of 88. Born on 20 December 1936 in New Grove, Mr Ramlugon completed his primary schooling at Rose Belle Government School. He then attended the Mauritius College at Curepipe for his secondary education. Mr Ramlugon started his professional career as an English teacher, and he adhered to the PMSD in 1966. He then contested the 1967 General Elections for the Legislative Assembly under the banner of the Parti Mauricien Social Démocrate for Constituency No. 17 Curepipe and Midlands and was returned as third elected member for the said constituency. In 1969, he was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of External Affairs, Tourism and Emigration, a post which he held until 1973. He was the first Chief of Protocol of the Government of Mauritius responsible in overseeing diplomatic, State and official visits. He was appointed as Public Relations Officer at Air Mauritius Ltd later on. Mr Ramlugon was elected Municipal Councillor for the Town of Curepipe in the year 1968. In 1983, he was appointed as a member of the Board of Commissioners for the Municipality of Curepipe, a position he held until 1985. Mr Ramlugon was also a social worker and former member of the Swastika Association and was involved with the fund raising as well as the erection of the Swastika temple at Pasteur Street, Curepipe. Madam Speaker, may I kindly request you to direct the Clerk of the National Assembly to convey the deep condolences of the Assembly to the bereaved family. Thank you.
