Reply: I am informed by the Commissioner of Police that the Piton Police Divisional Headquarters to which the hon. Member is referring is known as the Northern Divisional Headquarters, located at La Paix, Piton. The Northern Divisional Headquarters serves as the regional arm of the Mauritius Police Force, with a jurisdiction spanning approximately 326 square kilometres, encompassing parts of the Districts of Pamplemousses and Rivière du Rempart, and with an estimated population of 250,000. The Division comprises 13 Police Stations, 1 Police Post and 14 specialized units. It also hosts a Detention Centre located at Royal Road, La Paix, Piton. I am informed by the Commissioner of Police that a total of 73 vehicles have been allocated to the Northern Division for use by its Stations and Units. These include cars, vans, motorcycles, prisoner van/trucks, micro bus and mini buses. Out of these, 62 are currently roadworthy, while 11 vehicles are temporarily non-operational due to repairs, accidents, or mechanical breakdown. The details of each vehicle and their current status are being placed in the Library of the National Assembly. NEW VEHICLE REGISTRATION – LONG QUEUES – REMEDIAL MEASURES
