Reply: Presently, there are three confirmed local cases of Chikungunya. Two of the cases were notified to the Ministry by a private clinic and one was detected at Dr. Yves Cantin Community Hospital. It is worth mentioning that no local cases of Chikungunya had been reported in Mauritius since 2006, although some sporadic imported cases were recorded over the last three years. In 2024, two imported cases were recorded. Immediately upon being notified of the first case on 15 March 2025, the following measures were taken by the Ministry –

132 (i) activation of the Operational Plan for the Prevention and Control of Chikungunya; (ii) vector survey and control activities, including mist blowing, larviciding and fogging operations were initiated and are ongoing to minimise the risk of transmission to the population; (iii) fever surveys and contact tracing exercises are being conducted on a daily basis in areas surrounding the positive cases; (iv) an inter-sectoral meeting was held on 17 March 2025 which was attended by the representatives of the World Health Organisation, Ministry of Environment, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change and Ministry of Local Government and relevant units of the Ministry. All stakeholders were requested to collaborate and engage fully in the prevention and precautionary measures to prevent further transmission of Chikungunya in the affected localities; (v) daily monitoring and epidemiological surveillance are ongoing at the level of all healthcare facilities (public and private); (vi) sensitisation is being carried out in the press and on TV and Radio, and (vii) a circular has been issued to both the public and private sector, including to the Departmental Head Commission for Health, Rodrigues, to instruct on the precautionary measures to be taken to increase vigilance concerning Chikungunya for a standard approach for case management of positive cases and for investigation of all suspected cases. The Ministry is monitoring the situation closely. BEL AIR – FOOTBALL PITCH – REMEDIAL WORKS
