Caserne (Third Member for Port-Louis North and Montagne Longue) asked the Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, Home Affairs and External Communications, Minister of Finance, Minister for Rodrigues and Outer Islands whether, in regard to the Commission on the Prerogative of Mercy, he will, for the benefit of the House, obtain information as to the current composition thereof.
Madam Speaker, the Commission on the Prerogative of Mercy is established in accordance with section 75(2) of the Constitution and consists of a Chairperson and not less than two other members appointed by the President, acting in his own deliberate judgment. The President of the Republic has, accordingly, appointed Mr Hamuth, G.C.S.K. – he is a former Judge – as the Chairperson of the Commission on Prerogative of Mercy with effect from 10 October 2025 for a term of office of two years. The other members of the Commission are –
33 (i) Mrs Seetharamboo; (ii) Ms Suhashinee Bachun, and (iii) Mr Vassist Rao Luchmaya. They have also been appointed for a term of office of two years with effect from 10 October.
